Purpose and Role of Support Groups

A support group involves a number of people affected by IPF who come together – in person, on the phone or online– to share feelings and exchange information with people who have had similar experiences.

The purpose of a support group is to provide a safe place where people affected by a disease (patients or caregivers) can support each other, develop friendships, share ideas and thoughts, obtain information from health professionals and each other, and learn coping skills in a non-‐ judgmental and caring atmosphere.
