Hiking the Inca Trail

$2,506 of $1,000 raised
In Memory of Derek Donson

In February 2017 my dad was diagnosed with  Pulmonary Fibrosis on top of long-standing heart disease. Dad did his best, but the disease got the better of him and he lost his battle on March 30th of this year. Pulmonary Fibrosis is a disease causing scarring of the lungs. In a lot of cases there is no specific cause; in other cases, exposure to asbestos, coal dust or use of certain medications may cause fibrosis. Regardless of the cause, there is no cure and the result is a struggle to breathe and to carry on with independent living.

On April 28th, Chloe and I are hiking the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu. We will walk 44 km in four days reaching an elevation of 4,200 m at the highest peak. Our breathing will definitely be challenged and we know it’ll be a huge mental and physical challenge for both of us. Dad/ Grandad knew we were planning on the hike, but now we are hiking in memory of him and we know he’ll be cheering us on every step if the way.

Please consider donating in his memory to help provide funds for research and support for those suffering with Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Thank you,
Kerry and Chloe Spavor
