Terry Hardy Fund

The Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would like to thank and acknowledge the passion and contributions of Terry Hardy. Terry has arranged to end his life on Dec. 13/18 using the services of MAiD.

In November 2016, Terry Hardy, a resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake, was diagnosed with the incurable lung disease known as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

Since Terry couldn’t endure the long drive to Hamilton for the patient support group meetings being held there, he decided to start his own group in Niagara-on-the-Lake in January 2018. He understood the need for information as well as emotional support for both patients and their caregivers. His meetings have always been well attended with outstanding presentations from various experts in the Pulmonary Fibrosis field.

Terry also understood the need to maintain a regular exercise regime, but his disease had progressed to the point where he needed full-time oxygen therapy. He became frustrated by the fact that there simply wasn’t an exercise facility (public or private) anywhere in the Niagara region with an oxygen supply that he could use. Consequently, Terry decided to work with the TD Niagara Jazz Festival to stage a fundraiser specifically for IPF, so that patients could use the St. Catharines Hospital for pulmonary rehab. This was a program he had advocated for!

In lieu of flowers, Terry’s family would ask you to make a donation to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (CPFF) to assist in the formation and operation of support groups.

Terry has ‘moved mountains’ as he has battled IPF, and we know his legacy will continue!
