Anila Khan: When two worlds collide

I had been working for a few years as a respiratory therapist. During that time, I had met with and helped treat people with pulmonary fibrosis. It was a topic we didn’t cover in great depth during school and my knowledge about this disease was somewhat limited. My knowledge about PF was about to change in a very personal way. In 2014, my dad was diagnosed with fibrotic lung disease. I knew the basics of the disease and how to manage the day to day, but seeing my dad and his struggles really made me want to know more and be more involved. During that time, I read everything I could and I asked a lot of questions to help increase my knowledge. I was also fortunate that an opportunity to be part of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Supporters of Calgary almost fell in my lap. I have been involved with them since. I lost my dad three and a half years ago, but I am doing everything I can to make him proud and make a difference in the PF community.
